Job Title: Content Manager

Business Unit: ILM

I'm the Content Manager for ILM, which means I look after our social media channels and content marketing. On a typical day I'll get in, eat my breakfast and scan the news for relevant stories to comment on or share across our networks. I'll schedule some social posts as well as respond to any questions or comments our followers had overnight and I'll keep an eye on our social channels all day for any developments. Then I might be copy editing a webpage about things like our Apprenticeships offer, working with designers on images or infographics, or with our web manager on upcoming changes to our website structure. It's really varied.

What are the key skills that someone needs in order to do a job like yours?

An interest in leadership is essential as well as an eye for detail and a good story. We’re always looking for ways we can talk about leadership with our customers in an interesting way.

I work with lots of different teams across the business, so maintaining good relationships with people is crucial. You need to communicate clearly and succinctly, especially when dealing with senior leadership who might have lots of projects on the go.

What do you enjoy about your job at the City & Guilds Group?

Management is such a broad topic you can really never get bored. The quality of the UK’s managers affects everyone, no matter where you work – we’ve all had a bad manager at some point in our career, and we know how frustrating it can be. ILM is really working at making leaders better which is benefitting people all over the world.

I love creating content that makes a difference and has an impact – on our customers, on the business and my team. It's really satisfying to produce something that leads directly to new business, or engages with customers directly and makes their lives easier. My team are amazing and more like friends than colleagues.  Since we've become a business unit within the Group I've felt much more part of a bigger team.
