Edwina McQueen

Job Title: Employer Services Director

Business Unit: Kineo

I have a very varied role and no one day is the same as the other. First and foremost I am a manger of a team so I carry out all the normal duties you would expect a manager to do, such as 1-2-1’s, performance reviews, team meetings and coaching the team to be the best they can as individuals and as a team. I have my own customers and have regular meetings with Senior Managers in the Learning & Development or HR teams in organisations such as Compass Group, Tesco, TUI and McDonald's discussing their skills and development needs. My role also requires me to identify and engage with preferred “Partner Organisations” - organisations such as providers of training delivery, content development and elearning solutions. This means that I am lucky enough to be involved in all the phases of an employer project from development, to selling, through to the delivery of the solution to the customer.

What are the key skills that someone needs in order to do a job like yours?

Innovation, communication, listening and coaching skills are vital in this role, as are resilience and tenacity especially if we are developing a new idea that requires investment.

What do you enjoy about your job at the City & Guilds Group?

I really enjoy the challenge of developing new initiatives and implementing change in the education and skills environment. It's a great feeling of satisfaction knowing that I have solved a customer problem, have contributed to improving customers bottom-line through increased productivity or just knowing that I have done a good job, increasing customer loyalty and trust.
